Virgin improves Jamaica link
30 May 2007

Virgin Atlantic has announced that it is to increase its services to Jamaica.

The airline is to begin operating a new service between London Gatwick and Kingston, with flights leaving twice a week.

It comes on the back of Air Jamaica's decision to stop operating flights between the UK and Jamaica so that it could concentrate on its core routes.

Flights will begin on 30 October 2007 and will double Virgin's capacity between London and Jamaica.

'We already have a big commitment to the Caribbean and have a strong relationship with the local people and the tourist industry, which will benefit enormously from our expansion,' said Steve Ridgway, chief executive officer at Virgin Atlantic.

'We look forward to working more closely with Air Jamaica to develop the routes between London and Jamaica.

'We intend to offer a comprehensive network of connections between our three UK airports Gatwick, Heathrow and Manchester - and Jamaica via our US and Caribbean gateways,' he added.
