Hotel loses gold bathtub
31 May 2007
A holidaymaker in Tokyo, Japan, has surprised staff at a luxury hotel by managing to steal a £500,000 gold bathtub.
The Kominato Hotel Mikazuki included the bath in one of its suites on the tenth floor but somehow a guest managed to make off with it.
Employees at the hotel contacted police to alert them to the theft but officers are clueless as to how the expensive item was removed without anyone noticing.
The bath weighs 176 pounds and is made entirely from 18-carat gold.
It has long been the pride of the Kominato Hotel and bosses are desperate to get it back, although a recovery appears to be unlikely.
'We have no witness information and there are no video cameras,' a police official told the Associated Press. 'We have no idea who took it.'
Police say that whoever took the bathtub cut a security chain which was holding it in place for security.
