Lithuanian music festival
05 June 2007
The people of Lithuania are gearing up for the country's largest cultural event.
Following a four-year absence, the World Lithuanian Song Festival will once again dominate the country in July.
The capital city, Vilnius, and the country's second largest city, Kaunas, will be awash with sound as the festival takes over between 5 July and 8 July.
Thousands of singers, dancers and revellers will descend on the country for the event and they have been doing so for over 100 years.
Culture, dance and traditional songs will be united during the weekend-long celebrations and organisers are keen to let it be known that everybody is welcome.
This year's festival has been given the title: The Circle of Life.
Lithuania is also preparing for 2009, when Vilnius will be officially crowned European Capital of Culture, making Lithuania the first post-Soviet country to hold the title.
