Blackpool hub bans smoking
05 June 2007

Blackpool International airport has banned smoking throughout, one month ahead of the UK-wide ban.

Officials at the hub decided to bring the ban in early to create a safe and healthy environment for employees and passengers.

A number of signs have been erected throughout the airport, informing passengers that they are not able to smoke anywhere within the terminal buildings.

The UK-wide ban on smoking in public places comes into effect on 1 July and will make airports smoke-free before and after passport control.

'We hope that by taking an early initiative ahead of the ban on 1 July, we are encouraging both passengers and employees to adhere to and introduce the necessary changes,' commented Stephen Wiltshire, operations director at Blackpool International.

'It will also help us to overcome any challenges before the regulations become law.

'We anticipate that our passengers will understand and appreciate the reasons for going smoke-free and we thank them in advance for their co-operation,' he added.
