London hotels to get Olympic makeovers
08 June 2007
Hotels in London are being offered the chance to improve their levels of service and star ratings ahead of the Olympic Games in 2012.
The London Development Agency (LDA) is keen to increase the number of hotels in the city that have a recognised star rating.
At present, only one third are accredited either by AA or VisitBritain and the LDA wants to see this increase to half by 2010.
In order to get things started, the LDA has promised to subsidise the cost of new quality assessments by up to £400.
Ungraded hotels will also be able to access free one-to-one advice, workshops and self-help guides.
'Often, the lasting impression we get from our holidays can be from the accommodation we stay in and the people we meet,' said Mary Reilly, chair of the LDA.
'With London 2012 fast approaching, it's vital that visitors know the standard of the hotel they're booking.
'If we can get the majority graded over the next few years and raise the minimum standards of London's accommodation, then we can be sure our visitors will receive a world class welcome,' she added.
London is expecting a massive influx of visitors during the games.
