Great Wall is China's greatest draw
11 June 2007

The Great Wall of China has been named as the country's most popular tourist attraction.

Research by vice president of the Renmin University of China Feng Huiling found that most foreign visitors want to visit the Great Wall during a holiday in the country.

The study was carried out in a bid to gauge foreign interest and perceptions of China ahead of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

It found that 80.8% of those asked, most of whom were the socially affluent and members of the media, think the Great Wall is the most attractive site in China.

This was closely followed by the Imperial Palace, Tiananmen Square, Summer Palace and the Temple of Heaven.

When asked about Chinese culture in particular, those who responded to the survey said that they were most interested in the country's food.

The Olympic Games goes to Beijing on 8 August and will draw to a close on 24 August.
