Ways to beat the jet lag
13 June 2007

The summer sees thousands of British holidaymakers flying off to foreign lands, but many struggle with jet lag which can ruin the first few days of a trip.

Long-haul flights, time-zone changes and early check-in times can all contribute to feelings of exhaustion and sometimes confusion which can leave travellers disorientated.

But it seems that steps can be taken to curb jet lag and help passengers feel refreshed when they reach their destination.

According to the Daily Record, one of the best ways to avoid jet lag is to control the amount of daylight you are exposed to in order to fool the brain into thinking it is later (or earlier) than it is.

It also recommends that long-haul passengers set their watch to the time of their destination as they board the plane so they have a chance to adjust to the time change.

The paper also advises eating and sleeping at the hours that travellers normally would if they were already at their destination, adding: 'Shut the window blind when it would be night-time in your destination.

'And as soon as you arrive spend some time outside in daylight.'
