Woodstock remade
15 June 2007

The first ever remake of the world-famous Woodstock music festival is set to take place this year.

Back in 1969 it was decided that a music festival would be arranged to celebrate peace and love and bring together like-minded people for a weekend of fun.

However, initial estimates of just how many people would attend were soon exposed as serious underestimates and around 500,000 people eventually turned up to watch the likes of The Who, Joe Cocker and Jimi Hendrix.

Woodstock soon became recognised globally as a symbol of peace and an icon of the hippie generation.

Now the festival experience is being offered to an entirely new generation of people with the launch of the Goodstock Music Festival.

The event will take place between 19 July and 21 July and the theme will be 60s chic.

Despite fears that the original Woodstock would descend into chaos, there were very few negative incidents.

The majority of the problems, lack of adequate toilet facilities and first-aid tents, centred on poor organisation, mainly down to the fact that it was not expected that so many people would turn up.
