Swedish Malmo Festival celebrates the crayfish
29 June 2007

People living in southern Sweden love their food and there is no better way for them to express this love than the annual Malmo Festival, which will be held from 17 to 24 August.

With hundreds of food stalls, the sounds of blues, jazz, swing and 1960s music and a fine array of theatres, installations and exhibition, the Malmo Festival is a cultural parade, but it is dedicated to celebrating one thing above all others, the crayfish.

Throughout August, shop windows display every possible variation of crayfish in Sweden, as almost every home and restaurant in the country comes together for the annual crayfish party.

One will come across crayfish decorated bibs, plates, hats, dishes, tablecloths and paper lanterns in the shape of a full moon if the real one is not visible.
