David Beckham goes cycling in southern France
10 July 2007

Enamoured perhaps by the spectacle of the Tour de France, which started off in London this weekend before snaking through France, David Beckham was seen enjoying his own bike ride in Provence.

Clad in a spandex top, wrap-around sunglasses and a stack-hat helmet, the international footballer would not have looked out of place on the Tour, as he cycled through the French countryside just days before his family moves to the US city of Los Angeles.

Beckham, who is preparing to make his debut for American team LA Galaxy, took some time off with his family in the south-eastern region of France, which overlooks the Mediterranean Sea.

Provence is so named because it was one of the first provinces to be established by the Roman Empire outside of Italy. It has been inhabited since ancient times.
