Edinburgh Airport celebrates 'busiest day'
13 July 2007
Edinburgh Airport recorded its busiest ever day last month, following the start of school summer holidays in Scotland.
In total, 35,782 passengers passed through the airport on 29 June, smashing the previous record by almost 1,000 people. For the month, the airport was visited by more than 846,000 passengers, a rise of 3.6 per cent compared to the same month last year.
"It is a very busy and exciting time and I am delighted that, on our busiest ever day, we maintained our high levels of customer service and ensured that all of our passengers passed through security within five minutes," said David Johnston, managing director of Edinburgh Airport.
"We have planned carefully for this busy summer period and worked hard to ensure that we can cope with such large numbers of passengers by investing in security as well as terminal facilities."
In the last 18 months, Edinburg Airport has caught up with Glasgow in terms of passenger traffic. While Glasgow is still Scotland's busiest airport, the gap is narrowing over the past year the difference in passenger volumes was just 100,000 passengers, one per cent.
