Hogwarts open for business in India
16 July 2007
The Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, made famous in J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter novels, could soon be a thing of reality in India.
That is if Indian magician Socar, who is famous for making the Taj Mahal 'disappear', is successful in his plans to offer a master's degree in the dark arts.
The 61 year-old is known for his mammoth illusions and wishes to pass on the secrets of the ancient art form perfected in his family over eight generations.
'The 2,000 year-old craft of street magicians was passed on through word of mouth before,' the magician said. 'It would be a loss for Indian magic if this art was not preserved.'
The master's degree 'Dramagic' course will begin next year if everything goes according to plan, at the government run Visva-Baharati University in the east of India.
