The Faroe Islands' busy summer schedule
16 July 2007
Holidaymakers looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city can find peace and tranquility in the Faroe Islands, bust there is also plenty to do on the chain of 18 islands, Atlantic Airways has said.
During the summer months, the sun hardly goes down, a great excuse for partying into early hours of the morning, particularly with so many events coming up in the Scandinavian islands' calendar.
From 19 to 21 July, the seaside village of Gota will host the G! Festival, a music extravaganza featuring performances by Natasha Bedingfield, Guillemots, Pravda and local band Budam.
A week later, 29 July is Saint Olav's Day, an ancient festival celebrating the history and culture of the Faroese. People from the islands travel to the capital city, Torshavn, for processions, family get-togethers and a boat race in which competing teams travel in Faroese rowing boats reminiscent of Viking long ships.
The following month, the Summer Festival (3 to 5 August) sees some 10,000 people gather in Torshavn for a variety of musical acts from Klaksvik, one of the most stunning harbours in northern Europe.
Atlantic Airways flies to the Faroe Islands from a number of destinations throughout Europe. If you'd like to see this destination for yourself, use Opodo's travel search engine to find flights, hotels, holidays and car hire worldwide
