Lufthansa launches new Romanian service
18 July 2007

Deutsche Lufthansa AG, Europe's largest airliner, has announced the launch of a new service to Sibiu, in Romania, which will begin operation in September.

The German flag carrier, which also provides flights to the Romanian cities of Bucharest and Timisoara, will serve Sibiu five times a week from its Munich hub, taking the total number of flights to Romania from 66 to 71.

The new route will see the German airliner increasing its Central and Eastern European schedule to 360 flights a week to 22 destinations.

'Sibiu is one of the fastest growing markets in Romania… Lufthansa is thus offering yet another flight connection to an important growth region in Central and Eastern Europe,' said Marianna Sammann, of Lufthansa.

The city of Sibiu and its surrounding suburbs have a population of more than five million. Beyond acting as a major medieval tourist attraction in the foothills of the Southern Carpathian Mountains, the city is one of the two European Capitals of Culture in 2007.
