Princess Mathilde in the Belgian Ardenne for the day
18 July 2007

Taking a break from the life of Belgian royalty, Princess Mathilde accompanied her husband, Prince Phillipe, and their children on a day out in the Belgian Ardennes this week.

The family wandered around the 500 hectares of forest that make up the Parc Chlorophylle with five-year-old Princess Elisabeth, three-year-old Prince Gabriel and little 21-month-old Prince Emmanuel.

The children were seen playing on a wooden climbing frame and exploring the various nature trails with their parents.

Mathilde and Philippe were on hand with King Albert and Queen Paola to welcome the British monarch, Queen Elisabeth II to Brussels last week, following a First World War memorial ceremony at Passchendaele.

The Ardennes is a volcanic region of forest land and rolling hillsides that stretches from Belgium and Luxembourg into France.
