Holidaymakers warned to book early for Beijing 2008
24 July 2007

Those hoping to visit Beijing next summer for the 2008 Olympic Games have been warned to plan their trip well in advanced.

A leading travel specialist warned that the Beijing Olympics, which run from 8 to 24 August 2008, will see hotels bumping up their prices as early as April next year, some demanding in excess of £500 a night.

'China has been growing in popularity over the past few years due to more tour operators featuring the destination and increased publicity from the Beijing Olympics,' said Brent Novak, of Flight Centre.

'We believe that bookings to China may suffer due to this, particularly during the peak summer travel period as travellers are put off by the high hotel prices, although we anticipate that post Olympics and 2009 will see a big boost in travellers to the destination.'

China is currently nearing the completion of its Tianjin Olympic Centre Stadium. Shaped like a tear drop, the stadium will host various athletics and football events at the summer games.
