Danish festival gets 'medieval'
25 July 2007

Anyone travelling to Denmark in August should take the time to visit the city of Horsens, situated to the east of the Jutland Peninsula.

From 24 to 25 August, the city will play host to the European Medieval Festival, which will feature an accurately recreated village straight from the Middle Ages.

Locals will don 15th century attire and drink from handmade medieval vessels, while knights will compete in exciting tournaments and do battle with one another in the form of jousts.

There will also be a whole range of accompanying concerts, theatre productions, puppet shows, falconry displays and even a medieval style wedding to entertain the family.

Horsens hosted the first Medieval Festival in 1995, as a way to educate revelers of a significant but often overlooked period in the colourful history of the city.

Today the festival is an international event, with participants and artists from more than ten different European countries.
