Wayne Rooney gets new team-mate in Chinese Zoo
27 July 2007

He may be used to partnering the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs on the pitch, but Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney chose to play with a scarlet macaw in China this week.

The parrot perched on the England international's shoulder as the team visited a zoo in Guangzhou, capital city of the Guangdong province of China, during their Asian tour.

Ryan Giggs, meanwhile, held a baby chimpanzee, which was content to fall asleep in his arms as the Welsh footballer walked around the zoo.

United, who finish their tour this Saturday with a match against local side Guangzhou Yi You, began their tour in Japan with a 2-2 draw against J-League champions Urawa Reds, before jetting to South Korea where they thumped Seoul FC 4-0.

Upon arriving in China, some members of the team took time out of their schedule to promote public awareness of Aids in the country, as part of a Unicef charity event in Guangzhou.
