London takes to the street for Notting Hill Carnival
27 July 2007

Over half a million people will be dancing on the streets of Notting Hill in West London on 26 and 27 August, in celebration of the Notting Hill Carnival, one of Europe's largest street festivals.

A countless number of floats will tour around the areas as music blasts out from the surrounding streets. From place to place there are different styles to suit anyone's mood, reggae, rock, dance, electro and much more. Big bands will also play live shows, entrance for which is free!

While Sunday's festivities are aimed towards families and children, the carnival takes off on Bank Holiday Monday as London party's all day and into the night.

The carnival is led by the area's large Caribbean community, many of whom have lived in the area since the 1950s. For those that get hungry from all the dancing, there will be a number of stalls selling the finest Caribbean foods, from jerk chicken to patties and curries.
