New York City hosts US Tennis Open
06 August 2007
Fully recharged after the physical and emotional rollercoaster of this year's Wimbledon, the world's best tennis players will be entering into advanced stages of preparation for the US Open, taking place at Flushing Meadows, in New York City from 27 August to 9 September 2007.
One of the biggest tournaments in the tennis calendar, the US Open stands aside the Wimbledon, the French Open and the Australian Open as one of the four Grand Slam titles, essential viewing for tennis enthusiasts.
With the introduction of night matches in 1975, the tournament's hard courts have staged some of the most epic confrontations, involving tennis legends such as Pete Sampras, John McEnroe, Margret Smith Court and Martina Navratilova.
This year will see Roger Federer defend the men's title, having beaten Andy Rodick in the 2006 final. Maria Sharapova is the current women's champion, after she achieved victory against Justine Henin in the final last year.
