Amsterdam opens first Dutch Yotel
14 August 2007

The Dutch capital city of Amsterdam has become the latest European city to sport a trendy Yotel, a Japanese pod-style hotel which offers the capsule rooms by the hour.

Earlier this year, Europe's first Yotel was opened at Gatwick Airport in London and plans to open a second 32-room hotel at London Heathrow's Terminal 4 in the coming months are well under way.

The 55-cabin hotel being set up in Amsterdam will be housed inside Schiphol Airport and is expected to open for business early 2008.

Each Yotel capsule features a bed, shower, flat screen TV and free internet connection, with cabins ranging in size from 22 to 32 square feet.

Gerard Greene, chief executive of Yotel, commented: "Yotel will be offering Schiphol customer affordable space to work, relax, sleep, refresh or be entertained – just for a few hours during transit or an overnight stay in a fantastic location.'

Meanwhile, Yotel marketing director Jo Berrington has stated the company's intentions to expand over the coming years into airports and city centre in the USA.
