Singapore Airlines to receive first A380 aircraft
17 August 2007

Singapore Airlines, the country's national airline, has announced that it will receive delivery of the first Airbus A380 aircraft on Monday 15 October 2007, following a ceremony in Toulouse, France, where the planes are built.

The 471-seater aircraft will provide three distinct classes of travel - Economy, Business and Singapore Airlines Suites, a new class offering the highest possible service. It will operate out of Changi Airport, on the east of the island.

Singapore Airlines chief executive, Chew Choon Seng, said: 'Everyone at Singapore Airlines is keenly anticipating the delivery of this new plane and our people are working hard on final preparation for its entry into service. The first flight promises to be one of the most exciting occasions in aviation history.'

Upon its maiden flight in 2005, the Airbus A380 superseded the Boeing 747 as the largest passenger aircraft in the world. The new plane's first commercial voyage is scheduled for 25 October, with a flight to Sydney, Australia. The return flight will take place on 26 October.
