Early bookings 'can combat holiday blues'
06 September 2007

Booking future holidays early can be an effective way of shaking off 'post-holiday blues', a celebrity psychologist has claimed.

Following a survey by Birmingham International Airport indicating that two-thirds of people feel down when returning from a holiday, Donna Dawson said that getting the next trip booked can be a good way for people to make themselves feel better.

'It gives you something positive to look forward to,' she said.

'The other thing is – you obviously get the best deals and you're very likely to get a flight from your local airport.'

The psychologist suggested that using a local hub can effectively remove the stress involved in travelling to airport, particularly as some people make long journeys to catch their flight.

'Half the stress is actually travelling to the airport, whether you book a taxi or take public transport,' Dr Dawson said. 'People travel great distances to get a flight but if they can go to their local airport then the stress of that travelling to the airport can be removed.'
