Emirates boosts profile in US
10 September 2007
Emirates has been boosting its profile in America ahead of the launch of its new route between Dubai and Houston, Texas.
The airline recently hosted the Florida leg of its travelling roadshow to promote its service to the US, with one show already being held in Houston on 29 August and a third scheduled for 28 September in Dallas.
Visitors were given a multimedia presentation about Dubai and the Emirates airline and could also enter a viewing gallery for the opportunity to sit in the private first class suite of an Emirates aeroplane.
Nigel Page, the airline's senior vice-president of commercial operations in the Americas, said the new route, which will operate three times a week from 3 December, will be a significant boost for tourism in the US.
'We anticipate that the new route will not only promote Dubai and transit markets to America's south, it will also promote tourism and leisure travel to the southern United States from around the world,' he said.
The Dubai-Houston service will utilise the Boeing 777-200LR aircraft, the latest addition to Emirates' fleet of over 100 wide-bodied planes.
At present, the carrier's international route network consists of 93 destinations in 59 countries and by the end of the year its non-stop services from Dubai will cover Venice, Newcastle, Sao Paulo, Toronto and Ahmedabad.
