Aer Arann enjoys World Cup effect
11 September 2007
Aer Arann has celebrated the effect of the rugby World Cup on its sales, with passenger figures to Nantes reaching an all-time high on the opening weekend of the tournament.
The airline runs scheduled flights to Nantes from Cork, Cardiff and Bristol, which were full with rugby fans over the weekend.
Colin Lewis, head of sales and marketing at Aer Arann, said the carrier was 'delighted' that its passenger numbers reached an all-time high for the start of the competition.
He continued: 'Every seat on every flight was full between the UK and Ireland - Cardiff-Nantes, Bristol-Nantes and Cork-Nantes.
'Indeed, for the whole of summer 2007, we've exceeded all our expectations this year and as we will carry 8,700 between Nantes and the UK and Ireland 20% ahead of last year.'
Rugby fans will be taken all over France during the World Cup, from Lens and Saint-Denis in the north, through Paris, Nantes and Lyon in the heart of the country to Marseille, Montpellier and Toulouse in the south.
