Stansted chosen for pro-aviation campaign
12 September 2007
A pro-aviation group has chosen Stansted airport for the launch of its latest campaign.
Flying Matters states that its goal is to dispel some of the 'myths' surrounding the link between aviation and climate change and demonstrate that the environmental impact of the industry is being addressed effectively.
It comprises a range of groups, including businesses, trade unions, air transport users and tourism associations.
To support its campaign Flying Matters will place posters around Stansted airport showing iconic destinations and landmarks around the world with a 'no entry' sign over them, demonstrating that people would be limited in their travel ambitions if restrictions were placed on the aviation industry.
Michelle Di Leo, campaign director of Flying Matters, said anti-aviation lobbyists 'need to be very clear' on the potential effects of limiting the growth of the aviation industry.
'Working families are now able to share in the excitement and benefits of travel to places which were previously only available to a privileged few,' she said.
'Those who argue that any growth in aviation should be prevented need to be very clear that the impact would be to price those families out of their one holiday a year.'
