Exeter celebrates record-breaking August
13 September 2007
Exeter international airport has announced that it experienced its most successful month ever in August, with 113,598 passengers.
These figures are up by 1,000 on the previous month and a 3% increase on 2006.
Malaga in Spain appears to be one of the most popular destinations with fliers from Exeter, with the airport there welcoming over 7,000 passengers during August.
Antalya and Bodrum in Turkey continued to be popular but the most impressive performer in that country was Dalaman, which saw a 286% annual increase in Exeter passengers.
Long-haul travellers also made use of the airport, with routes to Toronto Hamilton and Toronto Pearson airports being used by over 2,000 customers.
Jamie Christon, commercial director at Exeter, said: 'The announcement highlights the popularity of the local airport and we are very happy with the record-breaking figures which come just nine months after the takeover by Regional and City Airports.
'The airport's facilities have improved greatly and we hope that the success of this summer continues in the months to come as more and more people regard Exeter as their airport of choice.'
