Austrian enjoys increase in scheduled traffic
17 September 2007
Austrian Airlines has seen an increase in scheduled traffic in the first eight months of this year, with around 5.37m passengers using its short- and medium-haul routes.
This is an 8.3% increase on the corresponding period of 2006.
August alone saw a year-on-year increase of 8% in customers using the carrier's scheduled short- and medium-haul services.
While the number of seats made available by the airline in this segment rose by 8.7% this year, passenger demand rose by a stronger 11.2%, leading to a load factor of 67.1%.
Alfred Otsch, chief executive officer of Austrian Airlines, revealed that the group carried a total of 7.28m passengers on all services in the first eight months of this year but stressed that the scheduled segment of the business is seeing the most growth.
'Scheduled flights, which account for around 86% of our traffic, continue to grow strongly,' he said.
'This result is all the more pleasing because the strong growth in the short- and medium-haul segment almost compensated for the fully effective and planned reduction in long-haul. The positive passenger load factor figures in all segments confirm that we are on the right course.'
