Catch some waves in Hawaii
17 September 2007

Visitors to the Hawaiian island of Maui will be catching some waves in November, or at least watching other people get wet, as the Aloha Classic Windsurfing Championships get underway.

Every year the event is held at the Ho'okipa Beach Park near Paia in Maui, regularly attracting around 100 international competitors.

The surfers go head to head in a number of different categories, including pro, open, masters and grand masters.

Maui is well known for its impressive seasonal surf and consistent trade winds, making this one of the most popular events on the windsurfing scene with media, spectators and competitors.

The Aloha Classic has been held in Hawaii since 1984, making it one of the longest-running windsurfing events in the world.

Since its inception, it has been the traditional final meeting on the sport's pro world tour.
