Lufthansa unveils green initiative
18 September 2007

Lufthansa has launched a new scheme giving customers the chance to donate money to climate protection projects.

Contributions can be made directly to the airline and will be used by non-profit organisation myclimate to fund projects that will achieve a 'direct reduction' in greenhouse gas emissions.

Lufthansa claims that the initiatives to receive funding all comply with stringent quality standards.

This is not the first green scheme that the carrier has launched as, since 2006, its passengers have been able to donate 'award miles' to aid agencies and environmental organisations.

Wolfgang Mayrhuber, chairman of the airline's executive board, said: 'Lufthansa stands for corporate policies that are geared to environmental protection and sustainability.

'By providing a platform that enables our customers to play a part in climate protection, we are also complying with the wishes of many Lufthansa passengers who are eager to make an effective contribution to the common good.'
