Swiss invests in fleet revamp
20 September 2007

Swiss Airlines has announced an investment of over 1 billion (£424m) Swiss francs in its intercontinental aircraft fleet.

Nine of the carrier's 11 Airbus A330-200s will be replaced by larger A330-300 models, making first class cabins available throughout its long-haul fleet.

Swiss will also be the only airline in the world to offer first class seats to all of its long-haul destinations.

Christoph Franz, the company's chief executive officer, said: 'Swiss is investing in modernising and enlarging its fleet.

'And it's our improved profitability that has given us this scope to ensure that we remain wholly competitive in the longer term. Swiss is growing steadily and sustainably.'

The new Airbus planes will offer more seats than their predecessors and also achieve a 13% reduction in the A330 fleet's CO2 emissions.

Over the coming years Swiss also has plans to add four new Airbus A320 craft to its European operations.
