Southampton 'a gateway for business travellers'
20 September 2007
Southampton airport is growing in significance for business customers travelling to commercial hubs across Europe, according to BAA.
The airports operator said that the hub has been gradually strengthening its links with important business destinations across Europe, with the German cities of Hannover, Dusseldorf and Frankfurt among the most recent additions.
Extra services have also been launched to the commerce centres of Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris.
Chris Butler, managing director of the airport, said: 'The growing range of routes available from Southampton airport means that business passengers can get to and from this region really easily.
'The airport's popularity is continuing to grow, with last month being the busiest August on record. The airport welcomed 204,359 passengers, which was a 2.5% increase on the previous year.'
The south coast hub currently serves 45 destinations, 77% of which are international, and welcomes 1.9m passengers a year.
