Eurostar sets London-Brussels record
21 September 2007
Eurostar has set a new record for the train journey from Brussels to London, making the trip from the Belgian capital to St Pancras International in one hour 43 minutes.
The train reached speeds of over 186mph on the high-speed link between Folkestone and London and arrived at St Pancras at 11:48 on the morning of 20 September.
Richard Brown, Eurostar, chief executive, said: 'Today's journey puts London and Brussels firmly within the two-hour club.'
Earlier this month a Eurostar train broke the record for a rail journey from Paris to London, travelling from the French capital to St Pancras in just over two hours.
From 14 November all of the operator's services to France and Belgium will make use of the 68-mile high-speed connection linking London to the mouth of the Channel Tunnel in Folkestone, Kent.
Eurostar's switching of its services from Waterloo to St Pancras means that its trains can avoid busy commuter lines through Kent.
