Enjoy the parade in New York
21 September 2007
November 22nd this year will see one of New York City's most famous traditions, the Thanksgiving Day parade, bring the city to a standstill.
The world-renowned spectacle is enjoyed by parents and children alike as floats, bands, giant balloons and groups of clowns make their way through the streets of the famous metropolis.
A tradition since 1924, the parade will celebrate its 80th anniversary this year as a result of a three-year suspension during the second world war.
To mark the occasion, a hot air balloon will be added to the giant inflatable versions of Big Bird, Snoopy, Scooby Doo and SpongeBob SquarePants to entertain the crowds.
Macy's, the department store that organises the parade, will put out its traditional Statue of Liberty and Santa's sleigh float and there will be novelty balloons in the shapes of flying fish, pumpkins, candy canes, Uncle Sam and many more.
Lovers of Americana can enjoy the parade between 09:00 and midday as it makes its way from 77th Street and Central Park West to Broadway before finishing at 7th Avenue.
