New York targets more UK travellers in 2008
24 September 2007

New York's State division of tourism has said that it is targeting UK travellers for 2008.

The division said that it will bring its largest-ever tourism delegation to World Travel Market 2007 as it aims to develop its relationship with British tour operators.

Markly Wilson, director of international marketing for New York State, said that research has been undertaken that has verified the importance of the UK market to the American tourism market.

Mr Wilson said that many tourists from the UK are combining a visit to New York with trips upstate that include food and wine tasting, fishing and outdoor activities.

He added: 'This year tourism representatives showcasing the diverse regions of New York State – including the Adirondack Mountains, Long Island, the Hudson Valley, the Finger Lakes and Niagara – will be present at World Travel Market to work with the UK travel trade to further develop the NYC product available to the UK traveller.'

New York State shares a border with Canada and is home to four mountain ranges – the Adirondacks, the Catskills, the Shawangunks and the Taconics – as well as the Niagara Falls.
