Austrian Airlines expands routes to eastern Europe
25 September 2007
Austria's national carrier has expanded its connections to eastern Europe ahead of its forthcoming winter schedule.
The airline will now offer a total of 600 flights a week to central and eastern Europe, drawing from some 45 destinations in the region.
Flights to the Romanian city of Sibiu - deigned European Cultural Capital for 2007 - will now operate on daily basis, while the number of daily connections to Serbia's capital of Belgrade will rise to four including the JAT Airways codeshare.
Services to Bucharest will also increase to five a day, including the codeshare connection currently operated by TAROM, and the recent introduction of early morning flights to Sofia will be maintained.
The airline has also extended its connections to two Russian cities - Rostov and Krasnodar - increasing them to five and six weekly services respectively.
Commenting on the route expansions, Austrian Airlines chief executive officer Alfred Otsch said: 'High flight frequency is decisive in modern journey planning, especially for business travellers.
'Now that we have increased the number of connecting flights those unexpected meetings lasting extended periods no longer need be a problem [and] tourists will also benefit from this greater flexibility.'
