New BA aircraft 'will help improve travel experience'
27 September 2007

British Airways has ordered 36 new aircraft and claimed that the purchase is the latest development in its efforts to deliver the 'best travel experience' to its customers.

The 12 Airbus A380s and 24 Boeing 787s will replace 34 of the airline's long-haul fleet and facilitate capacity growth of up to 4% a year.

Concerns over ecological impact and efficiency were a 'key consideration' in the purchase, BA claims, and the new planes will reportedly be greener, quieter and more fuel efficient with lower carbon emissions.

Willie Walsh, chief executive of BA, confirmed that this is the company's largest fleet order since 1998 and described it as 'great news for our business, our customers and the environment'.

He added: 'These new aircraft will continue our commitment to deliver the best travel experience to our customers.'

The two aircraft types will be used to cover different areas of BA's operations, with the A380 providing more capacity on high-density markets and the B787 starting new routes and increasing frequencies on existing services.
