Delta expands international network
27 September 2007
American carrier Delta Air Lines has announced significant expansions to its international network, with a total of 14 new international routes available from New York JFK airport by June 2008.
Its new summer schedule will offer convenient connections to Europe, Africa and the Middle East for more than 85 per cent of US travellers, the airline claims.
There will be a total of nine new transatlantic routes coming into service between 10 March and 3 June next year, including Tel Aviv in Israel, Ediburgh, Dakar in Senegal, the Kenyan capital of Nairobi and Cairo.
Popular holiday spot Malaga will also be added to Delta's JFK network, along with Jordan's capital Amman, Lagos in Nigeria and, subject to government approval, Cape Town.
Five new Latin American routes complete the changes, with services to Panama City, Guatemala City, Port of Spain, San Jose and Liberia coming into operation between 13 December and 16 February.
Introducing the new services, Delta chief executive Richard Anderson said: 'Our expansion in New York will build on the value Delta customers already enjoy with daily non-stop services to five continents from JFK, but will also meet this growing demand with a strategic plan to help alleviate chronic delays and congestion before another peak-summer travel season.'
