Dublin T2 gets go-ahead
28 September 2007
The green light has been given for construction work to begin on Dublin airport's second terminal after seven major contracts were signed by the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA).
With a combined value of 180m (£126m) the contracts cover all areas of the T2 construction, from concrete and steelwork to cladding and logistics. Building work is now set to begin next week.
Declan Collier, chief executive of the DAA, said that the association and its construction partners are 'focused on delivering T2 within a tight timeframe'.
The second terminal, which has a price tag of 395m, is scheduled to come into operation in April 2010 and will be able to handle up to 15m passengers a year.
It is part of a 2 billion overhaul of Dublin airport designed to improve customer experience as traffic levels continue to rise. In 2006 the hub handled over 21m passengers, a 15% increase on the previous year.
