Long-haul passengers 'prepared to pay more'
05 October 2007

The majority of passengers on long-haul flights are willing to pay more owing to the importance of comfort on lengthy journeys, the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta) has claimed.

If low-fares airlines begin to fly to long-haul destinations, carriers offering first-class places and seats with more leg room are still likely to be popular despite the price difference, according to a spokesperson for the group.

The representative also stressed that there are 'pretty good rates' available on flights to Asia with existing airlines.

She added: 'It [long-haul] is one area that most travellers feel they would like a bit of comfort in.

'There is a lot to be said for not feeling cramped and desperately uncomfortable when you are in a plane for ten hours and a lot of travellers feel that they would pay that little bit extra.'

However the spokesperson also said that student travellers and people on gap years will always show an interest in airlines offering cheaper fares.
