Canada targets more skiers
08 October 2007
Canada is aiming to attract as many skiers and winter sports enthusiasts as possible this year and has launched a new campaign accordingly.
The initiative, which carries the slogan 'you haven't skied, until you've skied Canada', will consist mainly of print and online components this season and is being supported by the Canadian Destination Ski Consortium (CDSC).
Renata Cecconi, executive director of the CDSC, said that the UK market is one of the main targets of the campaign, as it is one of the main overseas audiences for the Canadian winter sports industry.
Maggie Davison, managing director of the Canadian Tourism Commission UK, said: 'Many of our resorts have already had their first snowfalls and after some of the best ever snow conditions last year, Canada is definitely looking forward to a great season this year.
'Add in increased airline capacity, the buzz building up around the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games in Vancouver, we feel we can confidently say "you haven't skied, until you've skied Canada".'
Skiing and snowboarding trips are estimated to account for 10% of the travel market from the UK to Canada.
