Airport boosts Southampton's international status
11 October 2007
Airport operator BAA has spoken of the growth at its Southampton hub after the city was voted the sixth best location in the UK for international transport links.
The result came from the 2007 Cushman & Wakefield UK Cities Monitor report, which surveyed executives from the top 200 companies in the UK on the factors they consider when choosing a location for their business.
London was top of the list, followed by Manchester and Birmingham, with Glasgow and Bristol making up the top five and Southampton ranked number six.
Chris Butler, managing director of Southampton airport, said: 'The report highlights that cities are increasingly in competition with each other to attract inward investment and naturally an international airport plays a key role in this.'
The south coast hub now serves 47 destinations around the UK and Europe, with 14 airline and tour operator partners.
Frankfurt, Paris, Amserdam, Brussels and Dublin were among the most popular destinations served from Southampton in September.
