Austrian partners with city of Vienna for Euro '08
16 October 2007

Austrian Airlines has declared itself the 'unofficial fan line' for the Euro 2008 football championships and announced that it will work in partnership with the city of Vienna in promoting and managing the event.

The carrier will take responsibility for some 200 square metres of Vienna's Rathausplatz, which will serve as the 'fan mile' for the tournament.

Grete Laska, deputy mayor of the Austrian capital, said that the Rathausplatz will provide 12 large screens for fans to watch live games, grandstands to accommodate supporters and facilities offering food and entertainment.

Mr Laska also described Austrian Airlines as an 'important and highly capable' partner for the management of the fan mile.

The carrier's chief executive officer Alfred Otsch said: 'Just as a passion for football brings people together, Austrian Airlines connects people from the most diverse countries and continents.

'As an 'unofficial fan line', we shall be carrying enthusiastic fans from all competitor countries safely and comfortably to the European Championship sites.'

Euro 2008 takes place between 7 and 29 June at sites across Austria and Switzerland including Vienna, Salzburg, Zurich and Geneva.
