Singapore welcomes more visitors in September
23 October 2007
Singapore saw an annual increase in its number of foreign visitors in September, according to figures from the country's tourism board.
Some 766,000 people visited the south-east Asian nation last month, marking a 7.1% increase from the previous year and setting a new record for the month of September.
In the peak travel month of August Singapore welcomed 913,000 travellers.
Singapore's top five markets - Indonesia, China, Australia, India and Japan - accounted for over half of the total number of arrivals in September.
Visitors spent over 3m days in the country, an increase of 17.7% on September 2006, and generated S$152.2m (£51m) in revenue for its gazetted hotels.
Singapore, which is exclusively controlled by one city in a similar system to that used in Monaco and Vatican City, comprises a number of islands in south-east Asia.
