Big Ben 'London's no 1 movie location'
23 October 2007
Sightseers in London should head to Big Ben if they want to get a good look at the capital's most iconic movie location, according to a new survey.
Cinema advertising company Pearl & Dean polled 3,000 people on their opinion of the most memorable London location to have featured in a movie, with Big Ben coming out on top.
The tower was remembered by many respondents for the moment in the 1978 version of The 39 Steps, when the character played by Robert Powell hangs from Big Ben's clock face.
St Paul's Cathedral was voted in second spot for its appearance in Mary Poppins as the setting for the song Feed the Birds.
Westminster Bridge (28 Days Later) also made the list, along with Piccadilly Circus (An American Werewolf in London) and Portobello Market (Notting Hill).
Pearl & Dean spokeswoman Kathryn Jacob told the BBC: 'For a truly iconic image of London in film it's hard to beat the nail-biting, clock-ticking drama seen at the top of Big Ben in The 39 Steps.'
