Eurostar sees record passenger figures
24 October 2007

Eurostar has announced that it carried 2.23m passengers in the third quarter of 2007, representing an annual increase of 3.6% and a record figure for the company.

Ticket revenues totalled £148.5m between July and September, a year-on-year increase of 13.8% that was driven by business passengers and people travelling to the Rugby World Cup.

Business sales increased by some 12.9% and around 125,000 passengers were carried to and from Rugby World Cup matches.

Eurostar maintained a high level of punctuality in the third quarter of 2007, with over 91% of trains arriving on time or early, a record that is thought to have attracted many corporate travellers.

Chief executive Richard Brown said: 'Eurostar's continued growth in traveller numbers - especially in the crucial business sector - shows that growing environmental concern and a desire for a hassle-free travel experience are persuading more people to choose Eurostar rather than the airlines.'

The rail operator also announced the introduction of through fares from 68 UK towns and cities to the continent, with tickets going on sale on 14 November, the same date that Eurostar will move its London services from Waterloo to St Pancras International.
