Half-term travellers flood through Gatwick
24 October 2007

Gatwick airport has announced that hundreds of thousands of holidaymakers eager to make the most of the half-term break travelled through the hub over the weekend.

Between 19 and 22 October nearly half a million people embarked on holidays via Gatwick.

Friday 19 October was the busiest day of all, with an estimated 115,000 passengers taking off from the London airport.

Popular Spanish destination Malaga was the top destination for people departing from Gatwick over the weekend, followed by Tenerife, Faro in Portugal, Palma de Mallorca and Dalaman in Turkey.

Another Spanish hotspot made the list of popular locations in the form of Alicante, while Edinburgh was the top UK route.

Orlando International and Sanford airports in Florida also proved popular with half-term holidaymakers and Amsterdam rounded off the top ten.

Gatwick is the UK's second largest airport, with 32 million passengers moving through every year and 90 airlines operating services from the hub.
