Singapore gets approval for first F1 night race
26 October 2007

Formula One fans who travel around the world to watch the sport could be taking part in a unique experience next year after the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) gave approval for the Singapore Grand Prix to be held at night.

Subject to final safety checks, the race in Singapore will be the first ever F1 Grand Prix to be held at night.

The contest will take place on 28 September next year on a street circuit of public roads around the Marina Bay area.

Lim Neo Chian, chief executive of the Singapore Tourism Board, said: 'The in-principle approval by the FIA for Singapore to host a night race is yet another positive step in our preparations to present to the world a truly unique Formula One race.

'Subject to final safety approvals, Formula One fans worldwide will be able to enjoy a race experience like no other in Singapore from next year - a dramatic night street race set against our beautiful city skyline.'

Colin Syn, deputy chairman of Singapore GP, said that two positive lighting tests had been carried out and the race organisers were 'on track' to deliver the first night-race in F1 history.
