AA services land at Stansted
29 October 2007

American Airlines (AA) landed at Stansted airport for the first time today to commence its new service between the south-east hub and New York JFK.

A ceremony was held at Stansted to mark the occasion, with Hollywood actor Christian Slater in attendance to fulfil ribbon-cutting duties.

The Stansted-JFK service will initially run on a daily basis but AA has announced that a second daily service will be added next spring.

Stewart Wingate, managing director of Stansted, commented: 'The arrival of such a world renowned airline is fantastic news for Stansted.

'Today marks the start of a long-awaited economy and business link direct to the United States that not only gives our business and leisure passengers direct access to American's hub at JFK, but also brings inbound tourism and business opportunities direct to the doorstep of the east of England.'

Other services to launch from Stansted over coming months include a new Eastern Airways route to Manchester, also commencing on 29 October, and an Air Berlin connection to Munich, commencing on 5 November.
