Lufthansa, EgyptAir commence cooperation
02 November 2007

Lufthansa and EgyptAir have begun a codesharing agreement that will lead to improved international connections and harmonise timetables for passengers.

The joint venture between the two carriers came into operation with the start of the winter timetable on 28 October, only four and a half months after the agreement was first reached.

Codesharing will apply on all flights from Frankfurt to Cairo and Alexandria as well as services from Munich to Cairo.

Lufthansa has plans to expand its services to other tourist centres in Egypt and further destinations in north Africa.

Wolfgang Mayrhuber, chairman and CEO of the German airline, said: 'EgyptAir is an ideal partner for us because the cooperation arrangement will enable us to position ourselves long term in an important, dynamic growth market in north Africa.

'We are thus further expanding our global route network for our customers.'

Lufthansa first began flights to Egypt way back in 1959, when it launched a twice-weekly service from Frankfurt to Cairo via Munich.
